This morning we embarked on our longest car journey so far, we went all the way from Mile to Yuanyang. The drive took us up around 3000m again and through many small farming villages. Every inch of land is farmed through the mountains, including tobacco, vinyards and of course rice.
Our journey took us up to our hotel on the side of a mountain surrounded by rice fields in the middle of an old town. We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and quickly headed out to visit a local town. The whole place is being rebuilt by local people to preserve the local minority population. The government have clearly put a lot of money in to minority based projects. The local people were working hard reparing and building new homes, and they gave us a nice reception, something the Chinese people are good at.
We left the town working away to visit a huge area of rice terraces in time to watch the sunset. It was beautiful, the water in the rice feilds and surrounding hills changed colour constantly and Katherine couldn’t stop taking photos! It was an incredible site, such a lovely thing to see together.
Tomorrow we’re visiting some more local villages and the Swallow Caves. We’ve covered 1000s of miles so far yet we managed to stay relaxed it’s been fantastic.
